I Love Two With Water

Back in November, my friend Delphine Pontvieux invited me to a book reading in which she would be participating. I had already read her book (and LOVED it) so I thought, "What the heck. Let's do this!" Coincidentally (serendipitously?) the reading was hosted by the "Two With Water" group that one of my Boston University friends has been inviting me to for years!
I'm not sure why I never went to one of the readings before. I guess it was a fear of the unknown and a general lack of interest. But now I'm kicking myself. The event was really fun and intellectually stimulating.
It was held at Chicago's Beauty Bar on a Sunday night and it was a free event. The other readers had some really great short stories. One guy shared a story he had written without using any adjectives. I was riveted.
Another girl wrote a story about meeting Bob Marley in his hospital room as he passed away from cancer. Sad, strange, and oddly addictive. I didn't want her story to end!
There was a great open mic performance by a rapper as well. I'm not much of a prolific writer but this series makes me want to bust out my paper, pens (old school!) and put my thoughts down. Could this be my 2012 goal? Get my butt in gear to present a story at the TWW Reading Series! The next one is January 22nd. Anyone want to come with me?
